“Mirror’s Missed Campaign: Aiming to Bring Missing Loved Ones Home Safely”

Published:

Launched on Mother’s Day, March 30th, The Mirror’s Missed initiative is advocating for improved support and care for the 170,000 individuals, including 75,000 children, who go missing annually in the UK, along with their families.

Partnering with the national charity Missing People, our goal is to raise awareness and aid in bringing at least one person to safety by 2025 through sharing their poignant stories.

In a recent success story, 17-year-old Deante James, who had gone missing from his residence in London, was located unharmed a few weeks after our coverage of his disappearance. His mother, Vandana, expressed gratitude to The Mirror for their role in his safe return.

Since the campaign’s launch, numerous missing person cases have been highlighted, including emotional accounts from mothers on Mother’s Day like Julie Davis, Christine Durand, Nerissa Tivy, and Sharon Lee, hoping for assistance in finding their missing children.

On Father’s Day, children expressed their longing to embrace their missing fathers, underscoring the campaign’s importance. The Mirror has introduced an interactive map where sightings of missing individuals can be reported confidentially and shared on social media, providing details such as photos, names, ages, and duration of disappearance.

Nominated for the 2025 Making a Difference Award by the News Media Association, The Mirror’s campaign seeks a new missing children and adults strategy from the government to involve authorities and support services in prevention and assistance efforts.
