AP McCoy and Barry Geraghty Discuss Constitution Hill’s Racing Future

Published:

Sir AP McCoy has shared his opinion on the future plans for Constitution Hill, a promising jumps horse. The horse, who triumphed at the 2023 Champion Hurdle and had an impressive record of ten consecutive wins, faced setbacks at the Cheltenham Festival and the Grand National meeting at Aintree.

Following a comprehensive assessment during the summer, trainer Nicky Henderson believed Constitution Hill was ready for a comeback at the Fighting Fifth Hurdle in Newcastle. However, the horse experienced another fall at the second hurdle during the race, won by Golden Ace.

Despite these challenges, Henderson has dismissed the idea of retiring Constitution Hill and is considering transitioning the horse to flat racing. McCoy discussed the horse’s performance in a recent episode of William Hill’s Inside Track, highlighting the importance of perseverance and care for the talented animal.

Barry Geraghty, also a William Hill ambassador and the original purchaser of Constitution Hill, suggested exploring options for improving the horse’s jumping abilities before making any decisions about future competitions. Geraghty recommended potential rehabilitation with expert Yogi Breisner to address the jumping issues and evaluate the best course of action for Constitution Hill.

The discussion around Constitution Hill’s future path reflects the complexities of managing a top-tier racehorse and the careful considerations that go into maximizing its potential in the sport.
