McDonald’s Fans Upset as Hash Brown Price Nears £2

Published:

McDonald’s enthusiasts are expressing frustration over the soaring price of a hash brown, which has nearly hit £2 at select restaurants. A viral post showcased a snapshot of a McDonald’s menu, displaying the £1.99 cost for a hash brown at that specific establishment.

The post, garnering over 459,000 views, was accompanied by a remark stating, “£2 for one single hash brown. We are officially finished.” Responses flooded in, with one individual stating, “It’s getting ridiculous, I rarely visit but it used to be a budget-friendly choice.” Another remarked, “For that price, you might as well get the sausage sandwich.” A third simply said, “Insanity.”

Another user chimed in, praising the hash browns as an amazing creation but deeming £2 as excessive. Someone else nostalgically mentioned, “I recall when they were only 59p.”

In response, a McDonald’s spokesperson clarified that many restaurants are independently owned and operated, allowing franchisees to set their own prices. However, they emphasized a shared dedication to delivering quality dining experiences and value to customers.

This discussion emerged following McDonald’s announcement of forthcoming adjustments to the MyMcDonald’s Rewards system. Starting March 17, the points needed for free items like a Big Mac or Chicken Nuggets will increase from 5,500 to 6,500 points. Customers earn 100 points for every £1 spent at McDonald’s.

Furthermore, the points requirement for various items will also rise. For instance, the points needed for a Medium Coffee or Small Fries will escalate from 1,500 to 2,000 points. Similarly, the threshold for items like a regular McFlurry or an Apple Pie will increase from 2,500 to 3,500 points. To redeem a Double Cheeseburger or McChicken sandwich, 5,000 points will be necessary, up from 4,000 points.

According to a McDonald’s representative, the alterations to the loyalty scheme reflect the upward trend in food and supply expenses. While the points have been adjusted to offset these costs, new redemption options including Chicken Selects and Sausage Sandwich have been introduced to enhance customer choices.
