John Tory, the former mayor of Toronto, has been appointed as the new chair of the board of directors for the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Expressing his enthusiasm for the role, Tory stated his excitement to collaborate with the board, leaders, artists, filmmakers, and the wider TIFF community to help shape the organization’s future direction.
Tory’s tenure is set to commence on October 1, as per a recent news release. The upcoming festival is scheduled to take place from September 10 to 20. He succeeds Jeffrey Remedios, who held the position of chair since 2021. Remedios commended TIFF and its leadership, expressing his lasting pride in contributing to the film festival’s journey.
In addition to Tory’s appointment, TIFF announced the addition of three new members to its board of directors – Deborah Flint, David Furnish, and Daniel Tisch Echevarría. Furthermore, Asha Daniere, who served on the board for nine years, is stepping down. TIFF conveyed its sincere gratitude for Daniere’s dedicated service and significant contributions to the organization.
