A duo has been sentenced to prison for raping, burning, and strangling a female clown before burying her alive. The victim, known as Julieta or “Jujuba” in her clown persona, was part of a feminist performance group cycling from Brazil to Venezuela. She disappeared after staying overnight in Presidente Figueiredo, with her body later discovered in a shallow grave near a guest house operated by the perpetrators. The killers, identified as Thiago Agles da Silva and Deliomara dos Anjos Santos, confessed to the crime after police linked the victim’s bicycle parts to their property.
Reports indicate that Julieta was attacked by Da Silva while she was resting in a hammock. Subsequently, he bound her legs, and his accomplice, Santos, dragged her inside where the assault continued. After a brutal attack involving rape and burning, Julieta was ultimately strangled with a rope and buried. Santos, 29, was sentenced to nearly 38 years in prison, while Da Silva, 32, received a prison term of over 41 years. They were convicted of robbery, murder, and hiding the victim’s body.
The case gained notoriety when Santos posted a disturbing photo wearing the victim’s clothing days after the murder. Julieta’s disappearance prompted a search effort as her family and friends lost contact with her, leading to the discovery of her abandoned bicycle. The couple, who have five children together, admitted to the crime during police interrogation.
Julieta, a beloved artist, was described by colleagues as a courageous performer who brought joy to many across Brazil. Her feminist clown group mourned her loss, underscoring the tragic impact of femicide on women traveling alone in the country. This heinous crime has become a stark reminder of the dangers faced by solo female travelers in Brazil.
