Tesco to Give Away Free “Wonky” Christmas Trees

Published:

Tesco is set to distribute numerous free Christmas trees for a single day only. These “wonky” Christmas trees, typically not suitable for sale due to imperfections such as unevenly spaced branches or slightly leaning, will be available at selected stores on Saturday, December 6. Tesco encourages recipients to consider making a donation to the food charities Fareshare and Trussell.

The giveaway locations include Colney Hatch Extra, Borehamwood Extra, Hammersmith, Southport Extra, Goole Superstore, Glossop Superstore, Bristol Brislington Extra, Cardiff Extra, Dundee Riverside Extra, and Glasgow Maryhill Extra. Trees will be given out starting from 10am on a first-come, first-served basis, limited to one tree per household. Comparable Christmas trees are priced at £13.99 in Aldi and £14.99 in Home Bargains.

Ashwin Prasad, Tesco’s UK CEO, emphasized the importance of finding joy in imperfect moments during the holiday season. An onsite survey revealed that almost a quarter of Brits choose the second weekend of December to set up their Christmas tree. The survey also indicated that 87% of respondents believed that perfection was not necessary for Christmas to be special, with 74% agreeing that imperfect moments contribute to the festive spirit.

In a separate promotion, Tesco announced that Clubcard members will receive double points for every £1 spent on gift cards throughout December, applicable to all third-party gift cards purchased in Tesco stores. This offer extends to various spending categories, with double points being automatically credited to Clubcard accounts. Tesco has approximately 24 million Clubcard members who earn points on grocery purchases, fuel, Tesco Mobile, Tesco credit card transactions, and Tesco Clubcard Pay+ debit card usage.
