Nigel Farage is under pressure to address his notable silence following a statement by Reform MP Sarah Pochin expressing frustration over advertisements featuring Black and Asian individuals. Anna Turley, head of the Labour Party, has sent a letter to Farage questioning his lack of response to Pochin’s remarks made on Talk TV. Pochin, a Member of Parliament for Runcorn and Helsby, expressed discontent with non-white representation in TV ads during a call-in show, sparking criticism for her views.
Turley condemned Pochin’s comments as racist and called out Farage for not taking action against her. Health Secretary Wes Streeting labeled Pochin’s statements as disgraceful and criticized Farage’s silence on the matter. Similarly, Deputy PM David Lammy demanded Pochin’s removal for her racially charged remarks.
Pochin later apologized for any offense caused by her comments but maintained her stance that TV adverts lack diversity. Streeting accused her of insincerity and doubling down on her discriminatory views. Lammy condemned Pochin’s statements as mean and racist, emphasizing the importance of inclusivity and respect for all Britons.
The Mirror has reached out to Reform UK for their response to the controversy. Turley also directly addressed Farage, urging him to clarify Reform’s stance on the issue and take disciplinary action against Pochin. Turley emphasized that Pochin’s remarks were unacceptable and called for immediate action.
