One of the individuals accused of harassing the family of Madeleine McCann left a voicemail for Kate, the mother of the missing child, alleging that there is talk of a cover-up involving her, as revealed in court.
The ongoing trial at Leicester Crown Court has included testimonies from Kate and Gerry McCann, as well as their younger children, shedding light on the distress caused by Julia Wandelt and Karen Spragg’s alleged behavior toward the family.
Wandelt stands accused of reaching out to the family, claiming she believes she is Madeleine, with both defendants reportedly showing up at the family residence.
During a prison visit in April, DCI Cranwell informed Wandelt of the DNA test results, confirming that she is not Madeleine McCann, despite her insistence and requests for further evidence.
Operation Grange, led by DCI Cranwell, now operates part-time, with limited resources dedicated to the investigation into Madeleine’s disappearance.
Wandelt’s escalating harassment toward the McCanns led to the decision to obtain a DNA sample from her upon her arrest to put an end to her behavior, with the subsequent test definitively proving she is not Madeleine.
Jurors have been informed about the extensive efforts made by Operation Grange, which has received numerous claims from individuals believing they are Madeleine, all of whom were ruled out after thorough investigations.
Julia Wandelt, a 24-year-old from Poland, faces charges of stalking Kate and Gerry McCann, along with sending multiple forms of communication to the family, as well as contacting Madeleine’s siblings.
The trial will continue with further testimonies and evidence presented to the court.
