“Wetherspoon to Open Joe’s Pub at University of Birmingham”

Wetherspoon has revealed its intentions to inaugurate a new pub at a university campus. The renowned pub chain will establish Joe’s at the University of Birmingham through a fresh collaboration. Named after the university’s famed clock tower, Joe’s will remain under the management of the Guild of Students.

Scheduled to open in Easter 2026 after a substantial makeover, the new venue will offer the complete Wetherspoon food and beverage menu, including special weekly deals like the Thursday Curry Club. Wetherspoon, with close to 800 pubs nationwide, inaugurated its initial university pub at Hull University in 2022.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Wetherspoon’s CEO, John Hutson, stated, “We are thrilled to have partnered with the Guild of Students and are eager to work together to ensure the success of Joe’s Bar.”

University of Birmingham Guild of Students President, Antonia Listrat, noted, “Through our collaboration with Wetherspoon, students will not only enjoy affordable food and drinks but also witness an expansion in employment opportunities within the bar. This union will bolster our commercial ventures, supporting a dynamic future for the Guild and enriching the overall student experience.”

Wetherspoon is set to unveil six additional new pubs by mid-January. This announcement follows the recent launch of its Christmas menu featuring the return of its popular turkey dinner. The festive feast comprises turkey breast, stuffing, roasted vegetables, mash, pigs-in-blankets, peas, cranberry sauce, and gravy, with prices starting at £13.99 with a soft drink or £15.52 with an alcoholic beverage, varying by location.

The Christmas menu will be accessible until December 31. Despite increased sales and profits, Wetherspoon’s Chairman, Tim Martin, affirmed the company’s commitment to minimizing price hikes amid industry-wide tax escalations. Martin highlighted the challenges posed by tax increases but emphasized Wetherspoon’s dedication to limiting price adjustments wherever possible.
