Search and rescue authorities have located an aircraft in the Kawartha Lakes vicinity where a pilot went missing following a flight last week. The Trenton Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC), responsible for coordinating search and rescue missions in Ontario, announced on social media that a plane was discovered on Wolf Lake in Queen Elizabeth II Provincial Park, approximately a 45-minute drive north of the Kawartha Lakes region.
The case has been transferred to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) as a missing person’s investigation, as stated by the JRCC. However, the post did not explicitly confirm if the plane belonged to the absent 73-year-old pilot, identified by authorities as David. Durham police revealed in a social media update on Saturday that David departed from Oshawa Airport in the aircraft at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, with an expected return at 9:30 a.m.
According to police reports, David typically flies in the area south of the Kawartha Lakes township and north of Lake Scugog. The Ontario Provincial Police had previously described the missing plane as a small blue homemade aircraft with the tail bearing the inscription “FOFZ.”
