The Ottawa Rapid have disclosed that Carmelina Moscato, a former Canadian national team defender, will take over as their head coach in the upcoming season. The current head coach, Katrine Pedersen, revealed her departure from the Northern Super League leaders at the season’s end last month.
Moscato, a distinguished member of the Canada Soccer Hall of Fame, has an impressive background, having participated in three Women’s World Cups and securing a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics. With coaching experience in Denmark, Mexico, and most recently, Saudi Arabia, she brings a wealth of expertise to the team.
The Rapid has confirmed that Moscato will be signing a two-season contract and will immediately start working on preparations for 2027, including player recruitment. Thomas Gilbert, the team’s CEO, expressed his confidence in Moscato, highlighting her leadership qualities, coaching proficiency, and profound knowledge of Canadian soccer.
In a statement released by the team, Moscato expressed her excitement about joining the Rapid and emphasized her commitment to furthering the team’s success. Currently leading the NSL standings with 10 victories in 15 matches, Ottawa’s next match is scheduled in Calgary at 4 p.m. on Saturday, and fans can watch it live on CBC Gem.
