In the early morning of Friday, December 5, a homeowner discovered troubling footage on their wildlife recording camera. The video showed a two-year-old girl wandering alone in the woods at 3 am, barefoot and dressed in just a dress.
The homeowner immediately contacted the police out of concern for the toddler’s safety. A search operation was launched to locate the missing child, but it was later revealed that the girl had already been found.
A 21-year-old woman named Hayley Peoples contacted the authorities and admitted that her daughter had wandered out of their home in the early hours. Despite finding the child at 4:15 am, Peoples delayed reporting to the police for several hours.
Upon visiting Peoples’ residence in Texas, officials discovered hazardous living conditions, including trash, soiled clothing, rotting food, rat droppings, and a strong urine smell. The child found at the house was also dirty.
Peoples refused to accept medical care for her child or change her clothing, leading to her arrest for child abandonment and endangerment. Additionally, the toddler’s grandmother, Rebecca Kelly, interfered with the investigation by trying to remove the other siblings from school, resulting in her arrest for obstruction.
Both women were taken into custody and booked at the Bexar County Jail. Peoples secured a bond of $50,000, while Kelly was released on a $7,500 bail. The Mirror has reached out to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office for further comments.
