“15-Year-Old Sensation Makes History at WDF World Championship”

Published:

A remarkable 15-year-old darts player, Mitchell Lawrie, has impressed Luke Littler at the WDF World Championship held at Lakeside. Lawrie made history by becoming the youngest player to win at Lakeside by defeating Tomoya Maruyama from Japan and Jason Brandon, last year’s semi-finalist, with a flawless performance.

Lawrie’s outstanding performance included hitting five maximums and showcasing impressive checkouts, culminating in a remarkable 97.21 average, the highest in the tournament so far. Littler expressed his astonishment at Lawrie’s talent on the WDF Darts Instagram account, stating, “This kid is a joke.”

After his victory over Brandon, Lawrie expressed his elation, stating, “I’m absolutely buzzing with myself.” Despite facing a tough opponent in Brandon, Lawrie demonstrated his skill and determination by starting strong and maintaining his performance throughout the match.

Lawrie’s exceptional start in the first set, where he finished every leg within less than 15 darts, delighted the crowd. Although he narrowly missed a nine-darter, Lawrie’s 134 checkout was a highlight of the match. As Lawrie approached the finish line, Brandon staged a comeback, but Lawrie regained his focus and secured a comfortable victory.

Reflecting on the match, Lawrie admitted a slight lapse in concentration towards the end but praised the supportive crowd for motivating him. Despite missing his first match darts due to external distractions, Lawrie remained composed and closed out the game successfully.

Looking ahead, the PDC World Darts Championship will kick off on December 11, offering fans an opportunity to watch every match live through Sky’s Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle. For access to timely news updates, consider selecting Daily Mirror as a ‘Preferred Source’ on Google News.
