“Judge Approves Release of Epstein Grand Jury Transcripts”

Published:

A judge has decided to allow the release of previously undisclosed grand jury transcripts related to the Jeffrey Epstein sex trafficking case. US District Judge Richard M. Berman, along with two other judges, approved the Department of Justice’s request to unseal documents from the 2019 federal investigation into Epstein. This decision overturns an earlier ruling to keep the materials confidential, citing the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which mandates the release of all Epstein-related files by December 19. Judge Berman emphasized the importance of protecting the privacy and identities of Epstein’s victims.

Initially, the judge had described the approximately 70 pages of grand jury materials as not very revealing. However, victims of Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell advocated for the unsealing of the files while ensuring their identities remained confidential.

In a separate development, court documents from January 2024 mentioned figures such as former Prince Andrew, former US President Bill Clinton, and current US President Donald Trump in relation to the case. Epstein passed away in a New York prison in August 2019 while awaiting trial on charges of sex trafficking.

Judge Berman’s ruling coincides with another judge’s decision to permit the Department of Justice to release grand jury materials from Maxwell’s sex trafficking investigation. Maxwell, convicted in 2021 for her involvement in Epstein’s crimes, is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence.

In a related incident, Democrats on the House Oversight Committee recently shared images of Epstein’s private island in the US Virgin Islands, describing them as offering insight into Epstein’s activities behind closed doors.
