The World Nomad Games, a cultural and sporting event centered on traditional nomadic sports, are currently taking place in Kyrgyzstan. Athletes from 104 countries are participating in the games, showcasing sports from the Turkic peoples of Central Asia. The various events will conclude on Sunday.
The 6th Games are held in Kyrchyn Gorge, located approximately 314 kilometers east of the Kyrgyz capital, Bishkek. Participants and spectators are gathered at the venue, as seen in images captured during the event.
Activities include participants marching with golden eagles for a competition, interacting with hunting birds, and engaging in traditional equestrian disciplines like “tyiyn enmei” (pick up the coin) where riders gallop at speed to pick up coins from the ground while mounted on their horses.
Additionally, horse riders from Uzbekistan and Russia are competing in the traditional Central Asian sports of “kok-boru” (gray wolf) or “buzkashi” (goat grabbing) where mounted players aim to score points by throwing a headless goat carcass into a designated area.
The games also feature archery competitions, with participants showcasing their skills in various disciplines. Beyond the competitions, spectators can enjoy local food and witness craftsmanship skills on display, including wool spooling and pottery-making by Kyrgyz women.
The World Nomad Games offer a unique blend of cultural heritage and sporting excellence, providing a platform for traditional sports enthusiasts to come together and celebrate the rich nomadic traditions of Central Asia.
