She urged world leaders to expedite the peace plan’s next phase, brokered by Donald Trump and supported by countries like Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey. Speaking at the Manama Dialogue in Bahrain, she stressed the urgency of advancing the peace process to prevent Gaza from being trapped in a state of uncertainty.
Cooper highlighted the necessity of lifting aid restrictions and opening border crossings to deliver essential assistance to Gaza. The UK committed £4 million to clear landmines obstructing humanitarian aid delivery. Cooper emphasized the importance of disarmament, government formation, and peacekeeping efforts for long-term security in the region.
The Foreign Secretary initiated diplomatic relations between the UK and Palestine, following the UK’s recent recognition of Palestine as a state. However, she acknowledged the challenges ahead, including Hamas disarmament, governance establishment, and ensuring sustained security for all parties involved.
Cooper stressed the imperative of allowing foreign journalists into Gaza to witness the immense devastation and to support reconstruction efforts led by Palestinians. She emphasized the long-lasting impact of conflicts on children and the UK’s commitment to safeguarding the most vulnerable victims.
