The recent UFC Freedom 250 event, held at the White House in June, was hailed as a major success by TKO officials. However, the financial figures paint a different picture. TKO Group Holdings, the parent company of UFC, disclosed spending approximately $60 million US on production costs for the event on June 14. Despite high anticipation for the fight card, the company’s chief financial officer, Andrew Schleimer, acknowledged a loss of around $30 million during the earnings call on Monday.
Schleimer stated that the company faced unusually high costs, partially offset by sold-out global partnership inventory. Since tickets were not sold for the event, no live events revenue was recorded. The financial outcome resulted in a significant impact on UFC’s margins and the overall consolidated basis.
The highly anticipated mixed martial arts event attracted over 34 million viewers worldwide and featured a seven-fight card where every bout concluded via knockout or technical knockout for the first time in UFC history. Fourteen elite fighters competed on the White House’s South Lawn in front of approximately 4,300 guests, including members of Congress, business leaders, military personnel, and Trump administration officials.
Although TKO incurred a financial loss, CEO Ari Emanuel praised the event during the earnings call, emphasizing its success for the company, UFC brand, and the sport of mixed martial arts. Other executives, including COO Mark Shapiro, highlighted the event’s impact on generating over $1 billion in earned media value and enhancing commercial partnerships.
Despite the positive feedback, UFC President and CEO Dana White, a close associate of Trump, stated that due to the exorbitant expenses, there are no plans to replicate the event at the White House in the future. White expressed gratitude for the experience but indicated financial constraints as a barrier to staging a similar event again.
