US President Donald Trump has made good on his threat to revoke all autopen-signed documents, including executive orders, contracts, and legal pardons, issued during the Biden administration. Trump, aged 79, used his personal social media platform to deliver this announcement on Wednesday, December 3.
In a statement via Truth Social, the 47th US president declared the nullification of any documents signed by the unauthorized ‘AUTOPEN’ under President Joseph R. Biden Jr.’s tenure. Trump emphasized that such documents are now void and hold no legal weight, including pardons and other legal papers.
During a recent visit from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Trump showcased the “Biden autopen” prominently displayed in the White House. According to The Mirror US, the Trump administration replaced Biden’s portrait near the Oval Office with an image of an autopen.
Former President Joe Biden issued several preemptive pardons on Trump’s inauguration day to shield his family members, including his son Hunter and his brother James, from potential future legal actions tied to ongoing investigations.
Trump’s recent action to invalidate autopen-signed documents is in line with his ongoing criticism of the Biden administration post-2020 election defeat. He continues to dispute the election results and aims to erase his electoral loss from historical records through these moves.
Praising Trump’s decision, Republican colleagues have expressed support on social media. The Heritage Foundation’s Oversight Project, dedicated to scrutinizing the Biden administration, thanked Trump for addressing the autopen issue. GOP-led House Oversight committee chair James Comer endorsed Trump’s move to cancel autopen-signed files.
Biden has refuted allegations that his aides acted independently when granting pardons and commutations at the end of his presidency. He affirmed signing each document personally and dismissed claims of incapacity, labeling those spreading such rumors as “liars.”
