Norris and Piastri Disqualified in Las Vegas Grand Prix

Published:

Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri faced an unfortunate turn of events in Formula One as they were disqualified from the Las Vegas Grand Prix. Initially, Norris finished behind Max Verstappen on Sunday, with Piastri securing a fourth-place position. However, a technical violation led to their disqualification as post-race inspections revealed that the planks under their McLaren cars were thinner than the required 9mm thickness at the end of the race.

This violation resulted in their disqualification from the 22nd race of the 2025 season, equalizing Verstappen’s points with Piastri and intensifying the championship battle. The reigning champion now trails Norris by only 24 points, setting the stage for an exciting conclusion to the season.

This marked the first disqualification for both Norris and Piastri in their F1 careers, joining a small group of drivers who have faced similar penalties. Notably, Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc were also disqualified earlier this year, with their cars failing post-race technical checks in China.

In another incident, Nico Hulkenberg experienced his first disqualification in 15 years at the Bahrain Grand Prix due to excessive skid block wear on his Sauber. Additionally, George Russell faced disqualification at the Belgian Grand Prix for being underweight, leading to Hamilton being declared the race winner.

Looking ahead, Sky has reduced prices for its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle for the upcoming season, offering more than 1,400 live matches across various leagues. The network will broadcast over 215 live Premier League games, providing fans with an extensive coverage experience.

Leclerc and Pierre Gasly also encountered disqualification issues in the past, with their cars failing post-race weight and technical checks. Similarly, Esteban Ocon faced disqualification during his time with Force India, and more recently, an inspection revealed that his car exceeded the maximum fuel mass flow limit during a race in Austin.

The series of disqualifications among drivers in Formula One highlights the importance of adhering to technical regulations and standards to maintain the integrity of the sport.
