Provincial authorities have confirmed the discovery of a third set of human remains at a location close to Smiths Falls in eastern Ontario. The latest remains have been identified as belonging to Lawrence Bertrim, who was last seen in downtown Smiths Falls in September 2022. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding Bertrim’s demise, with no charges filed as of yet. A reward of $50,000 for any information that leads to a conviction in the case remains available, according to police reports.
Lawrence Bertrim was 42 years old at the time of his disappearance. Detective Inspector Jennifer Patton of the OPP expressed that finding Bertrim’s remains is a significant development for his family, who have been seeking closure for nearly four years, as well as for the investigative team tirelessly working on the case. The police have emphasized the importance of patience from the public as they continue to follow the evidence in their ongoing investigation.
Bertrim’s remains were discovered on the Kelly Jordan Road property on August 6, following the previous finding of another missing individual, Robert Lambert, on the same premises in July. Although no charges have been brought forth in Lambert’s case, authorities have expressed suspicions of foul play. Additionally, the remains of Robbie Thomson were found at the same residential location in October 2025, leading to the arrest of four individuals in connection with his death, including three facing charges of first-degree murder.
Bertrim and Thomson were acquainted with each other, as indicated by CBC News reports from 2023. The duo was also believed to have known Steven Tate, whose body was found in a ditch along Highway 15 in November 2023. The deaths of Tate, Bertrim, and Thomson captivated the Smiths Falls community, profoundly impacting the small town and its surrounding rural areas, according to local officials.
