Russian drone attacks on Kyiv and its vicinity have continued for the fifth consecutive day, causing disruptions with constant air raid sirens. The assaults on Monday resulted in injuries to four individuals and inflicted damage on various structures in the Kyiv region, according to regional Governor Tymur Tkachenko. The use of jet-powered drones has been prevalent in recent days, leading to fatalities, property damage, and warehouse destruction. Notably, an attack on an ammunition depot on Friday triggered explosions that claimed the lives of 38 people.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy remarked that the ongoing drone attacks were orchestrated to drain the resilience of Ukrainians. Within four days, Russia launched close to 1,500 drones at Ukraine, with over half of them being jet-powered, as reported by Zelenskiy. Additionally, a Russian strike ignited a fire at a terminal managed by Nova Poshta, a private courier service, in the Odesa region, according to Governor Oleh Kiper.
In the city of Kryvyi Rih, an industrial business was targeted by a jet-powered drone attack, resulting in injuries to two individuals, as confirmed by a local official on Monday. Both Ukraine and Russia have escalated strikes on economic targets in recent weeks, focusing on major e-commerce entities and retail establishments. Russia, in particular, has aimed at warehouses belonging to prominent Ukrainian supermarket chains, postal services, and home-goods stores. On the other hand, Ukraine has retaliated by targeting Russian infrastructure, as evidenced by a drone attack on a logistics hub in Yekaterinburg, Russia.
The heightened air attacks by Russia have exploited Ukraine’s limited interceptors capable of downing ballistic missiles, with daytime drone waves causing significant disruptions for Kyiv residents. The interruptions have led to the suspension of metro services and the disturbance of daily routines, leaving passengers stranded on crowded platforms during air raid alerts. One such individual affected was Yulianna Oliynyk, a 38-year-old nurse and psychologist, who was stranded with her two sons on a metro platform while attempting to reach a school ahead of the academic year. The ongoing alerts have forced families like Oliynyk’s to seek shelter and adjust their plans, adding to the uncertainty and challenges faced by residents in the region.
