Brighton & Hove Albion has secured a deal with Canadian striker Promise David, who is set to join the Premier League on a season-long loan from Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium. The agreement includes an option to buy David for a reported sum of $29.7 million US, subject to specific undisclosed conditions being met.
Union Saint-Gilloise confirmed that David will transition to the Premier League starting from the upcoming season, marking a record transfer fee for the Belgian club. David’s move to Brighton follows his successful two-year stint at Union, where he netted 41 goals in 82 appearances and contributed to the team’s first league triumph in 90 years in 2025. He extended his contract with Union until June 2029 last year.
Having represented Canada at the recent World Cup, David scored one goal while recovering from a hip injury. He has notched four goals in 14 outings for the Canadian national team. Born in Brampton, Ontario, to Nigerian parents, David initially played for Nigeria’s under-23 squad before switching allegiance to Canada in 2025 following discussions with coach Jesse Marsch, an approval granted by FIFA.
David’s journey has seen him play professionally in Croatia, Malta, and Estonia before making his move to Belgium in 2024. Brighton’s Sporting Director, Mike Cave, expressed enthusiasm for David’s arrival, highlighting his prowess as a goal-scoring striker with valuable international and European experience. The club, which has maintained a presence in the Premier League for nine consecutive seasons, finished eighth in the previous campaign.
