An investigation has been initiated by the police following a fatal incident where a council road sweeper struck a pedestrian. A 63-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving in connection to the collision that occurred just before 2:15 pm yesterday. He has been released pending further investigation.
The victim, an elderly man in his 80s, was swiftly taken to the hospital, but despite the efforts of medical staff, he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead a few hours later.
After the incident in Holy Bones, Leicester, the East Midlands Ambulance Service promptly notified Leicester Police. Detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit of the police force are actively working to determine the sequence of events.
As part of their inquiries, authorities are seeking individuals who may have witnessed the incident or possess relevant information. Detective Sergeant Mike Steer stated, “We are diligently investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision, following the tragic news of the man’s passing last night.”
The vehicle involved in the incident was a road sweeper belonging to Leicester City Council. Collaboration with the council is ongoing to aid in the investigation process. Anyone with information is urged to contact 101 and quote crime reference 25*602370.
In a separate incident, a mother is seeking to bury her four-year-old son in their garden after he was fatally struck by a bus while crossing a zebra crossing near the A&E entrance. The boy, Zaahir Jan Feizi, from Canterbury, could not be saved despite rescue efforts. His mother, Azaria Green, is fundraising to purchase their rented home to have Zaahir laid to rest in their garden.
Azaria, who currently lives an hour away from Zaahir’s burial site, believes having him close at home would aid in her grieving process. She expressed, “Having him at home with us would bring comfort and help me cope as a family. It would be beneficial for my mental well-being, which has been severely impacted.”
