Chilling surveillance footage has unveiled the moment Manchester synagogue assailant Jihad Al-Shamie departed from his residence before executing his fatal assault.
The newly released video captures the 35-year-old leaving his home in Prestwich, Manchester, driving a black Kia Picanto through residential streets.
Al-Shamie proceeded to Heaton Park Congregation Synagogue in the Crumpsall neighborhood, where he rammed the vehicle into a volunteer guard and fatally stabbed a man. Subsequently, the attacker was shot dead, and a worshipper was accidentally struck and killed by police gunfire, believed to have pierced the synagogue door.
During the incident on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar, Adrian Daulby, 53, and Melvin Cravitz, 66, from Crumpsall, lost their lives. The video owner, who preferred anonymity, mentioned checking his security footage after witnessing police search Al-Shamie’s home.
Expressing shock at the sequence of events, the owner shared with Manchester Evening News: “You can see him calmly driving along Langley Road, pausing before turning onto Bury Road. It’s unsettling to think about his intentions at that moment.”
Upon reaching the synagogue, Al-Shamie struck a volunteer guard with his car before exiting and fatally stabbing a man. Clad in a fake explosives vest, he was swiftly neutralized by armed police alerted by alert citizens. The assault resulted in the deaths of two worshippers and injuries to four others.
Allegedly a university dropout, Al-Shamie, born in Syria, obtained British citizenship in 2006 at around age 16, having arrived in the UK as a child. Authorities had him on police bail for rape accusations when he carried out the attack, during which he professed allegiance to ISIS in a self-made emergency call.
A woman recounted her three-year abusive relationship with Al-Shamie, who reportedly had multiple wives through Islamic ceremonies. She detailed his attempts to indoctrinate her into extremist beliefs, contrary to her upbringing.
