Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime exited the U.S. Open on Wednesday, losing his second-round match to Russia’s Karen Khachanov in four sets. Auger-Aliassime, the No. 3 seed from Montreal, claimed the first set in a tiebreak 7-6 (5) but then dropped the following three sets 6-3, 6-2, 6-2.
Khachanov, ranked world No. 50, struggled in his recent U.S. Open tune-up matches but managed to break Auger-Aliassime’s serve seven times on the court, saving seven out of nine break points. This win marked Khachanov’s second top-10 victory at a Grand Slam event.
During the match, Auger-Aliassime initially showed promise by taking a 3-0 lead in the first set but was plagued by errors, allowing Khachanov to gain momentum. The Russian player dominated the following sets, showcasing confidence in his shots and eventually securing the win.
Khachanov will face either Benjamin Bonzi or Ignacio Buse in the next round. Meanwhile, other notable players like Naomi Osaka, Coco Gauff, and Alexander Zverev advanced in the tournament, with Zverev notably surviving a challenging five-set match that extended into the early hours of the morning.
