“Inmates Charged with Murder of Lostprophets Pedophile”

Published:

Two inmates face murder charges in the death of Ian Watkins, the notorious Lostprophets pedophile, while in prison. Rashid Gedel, 25, and Samuel Dodsworth, 43, were both incarcerated at HMP Wakefield and appeared in court at Leeds Magistrates’ Court. They were seen in distinctive “escape risk” outfits and handcuffed. Dodsworth confirmed his identity as Samuel Richard Stanley Dodsworth and was informed of his upcoming appearance at Leeds Crown Court. Gedel, also clad in an HM Prison-branded escape suit, confirmed his identity as well. Watkins was attacked and stabbed during a period when inmates were allowed out of their cells, despite having survived previous assaults.

Police have charged Rashid Gedel, 25, and Samuel Dodsworth, 43, both inmates at HMP Wakefield, with the murder of Ian Watkins at the prison. Watkins, 48, was a convicted sex offender serving a 29-year sentence for heinous crimes against children at HMP Wakefield in West Yorkshire.

The former girlfriend of Ian Watkins, Jo Mjadzelics, who exposed his crimes, did not express sympathy upon learning of his death. Mjadzelics repeatedly alerted authorities about Watkins’ disturbing behavior towards children, starting in 2008, but her warnings were disregarded for years. A report from the Independent Police Complaints Commission exposed law enforcement failures in addressing Watkins’ predatory actions.

Watkins, a former rock star with the band Lostprophets, achieved significant commercial success but was later convicted of despicable crimes. He was finally apprehended in 2012 after years of reports and warnings regarding his illicit activities.
