Published:

The family of a teenage boy who was reportedly attacked with petrol and set on fire has shared the severe extent of his injuries. Jacob Thompson, 19, was walking on Cowper Street in Coonabarabran, Australia, on Monday, October 13, around 6pm when a man and two women approached him. According to reports, one of them poured a liquid on Jacob, causing him to catch fire. Passers-by quickly put out the flames before Jacob was rushed to the hospital.

Jacob’s family has disclosed that he suffered burns covering 32% of his body, including third-degree burns on his face, torso, arms, back, and legs. Due to the seriousness of his injuries and airway damage, Jacob was airlifted to Sydney and put into a medically induced coma on life support.

Currently, Jacob is receiving treatment in intensive care at Concord Hospital in Sydney, with his family by his side. The family described the incident as deeply traumatic, leaving lasting physical and emotional scars.

Authorities have arrested a 45-year-old woman, a 19-year-old man, and a 17-year-old girl in connection with the attack. The man faces charges of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and affray, while the woman is charged with affray. They were denied bail. The teenage girl was released pending further investigation.

In support of the family’s relocation and Jacob’s recovery, a GoFundMe campaign has been initiated. The family expressed gratitude for any donations, emphasizing that every contribution would help them rebuild their lives.
