A German couple engaging in sexual activity while driving at 90mph narrowly avoided causing a major accident on the autobahn. The 37-year-old male driver and his 33-year-old female passenger were seen swerving across the A1 motorway, prompting a concerned witness to alert the authorities.
Law enforcement was contacted after a witness observed the couple in the act as they passed by the vehicle. The couple was apprehended at a petrol station near Münster, where the male driver was charged with endangering road safety.
Reports from local media indicated that at one point, the vehicle, traveling towards Dortmund, veered so sharply to the right that it forced a truck onto the hard shoulder.
Germany’s autobahn system is renowned for its stretches without speed limits, but not all sections are unrestricted. Approximately 30% of the roads have speed limits in place, while an additional 9% utilize traffic management systems for efficient operations. Some areas enforce strict speed limits, particularly in high-traffic or high-risk zones.
In a separate incident in July, a driver was caught speeding at an alarming 200mph on the autobahn, exceeding the limit by more than 124mph. The driver, whose identity was not disclosed, was apprehended during a routine check on the A2 highway near Burg, just west of Berlin.
Authorities in Magdeburg fined the driver €900 (£784), imposed a three-month driving ban, and deducted two points from their license for the offense.
