A young girl was left in a dangerous situation on a cold mountain by her father, Micah Smith, who is now facing charges of child torture and aggravated child abuse. Smith took his three children, aged two, four, and eight, on what was supposed to be a simple hike but turned into a nightmare. Despite pleas to turn back, Smith continued up the mountain, exposing his children to harsh conditions.
The trail chosen by Smith was strenuous, with a significant elevation change. Smith had told his daughter they were embarking on a 9-mile or 9-hour hike, but the trail was actually shorter. As they progressed, the children became tired and cold, with the weather worsening. Despite the deteriorating conditions and the children’s pleas to return, Smith insisted on reaching the summit.
As the situation worsened, one of the children fell and became unconscious, while the others suffered from extreme cold. Smith, showing alarming behavior, eventually left the children behind as rescuers were called in. The rescue mission was challenging, with deputies facing physical hardships to reach the children.
Rescuers found the children sheltering near the mountain top, in critical condition. One child had to undergo surgery due to a stroke caused by the ordeal. Smith, who had exhibited concerning behavior prior to the incident, was arrested and faced multiple charges. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safety and preparedness when venturing into the outdoors with children.
