“Massacre in Sudan: Over 1,500 Dead in El-Fasher Hospital Attack”

Published:

Hundreds of individuals at a hospital in Sudan were tragically killed by paramilitary forces, bringing the death toll in the Sudanese city to over 1,500. Witnesses fleeing the western city of el-Fasher described horrific acts of violence by fighters who seized control of North Darfur’s provincial capital. Among the victims were 460 patients at the Saudi Maternity Hospital, where they were mercilessly attacked by members of the Rapid Support Forces.

The assault on el-Fasher included house-to-house searches by RSF fighters, who indiscriminately beat and shot at residents, including women and children. The ongoing conflict in Sudan has resulted in the deaths of more than 40,000 people, although human rights organizations believe this number to be significantly underestimated. This crisis has led to over 14 million people being displaced, marking one of the worst humanitarian situations globally.

Reports from Sudanese residents and aid workers detailed the brutal actions of the RSF after capturing the army’s final stronghold in Darfur. The Sudan Doctors Network revealed that RSF fighters ruthlessly targeted everyone in their path, showing no mercy, as they took over the Saudi Hospital. Survivors recounted harrowing experiences of torture, beatings, and sexual assaults by the fighters.

While RSF commander Gen. Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo acknowledged abuses by his forces, he did not provide further details. Disturbing footage shared by the governor of Darfur depicted the aftermath of the attack at the Saudi Hospital, showing bodies scattered on the floor and individuals being shot at point-blank range.

The influx of displaced individuals into neighboring areas like Tawila has overwhelmed resources, with reports of widespread killings driven by ethnic and political divisions. Witness accounts described a scene of devastation with bodies strewn across the city and helpless individuals left untreated. Aid workers in Tawila have been attending to a growing number of injured and malnourished individuals, including orphaned children who fled the violence in el-Fasher.

Despite international condemnation, the RSF continued its campaign of violence, with satellite imagery confirming mass executions in various locations around el-Fasher. The situation has been described as a catastrophic crisis by humanitarian organizations, with fears that the true extent of the atrocities may never be fully known due to communication restrictions.

Prior to the recent escalation of violence, UN figures indicated a high number of civilian casualties in North Darfur, underscoring the urgent need for intervention to protect the vulnerable population. The ongoing conflict in Sudan has left a trail of devastation, with innocent lives lost and communities shattered by the relentless cycle of violence.
