“Farage Faces Inquiry Over Undisclosed Trump Event”

Published:

Nigel Farage is under scrutiny in Parliament for a belated disclosure of interests. The Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards initiated an inquiry on October 30 concerning Farage’s earnings and overseas visits. The investigation is centered on his alleged failure to register a trip to Florida to speak at a fundraising event for Donald Trump earlier this year.

Farage, who recently proposed benefit cuts, was the keynote speaker at a Republican party dinner in Tallahassee, where attendees could purchase VIP tickets for £18,445, including a photo opportunity with him. Farage attributed the omission of the trip from parliamentary transparency records to an oversight by his office.

According to parliamentary regulations, MPs must register visits outside the UK exceeding £300, not fully funded by themselves or public resources, within 28 days. In response, a Labour source criticized Farage for neglecting his parliamentary duties and supporting austerity measures while benefiting financially from international engagements.

Daisy Cooper, Lib Dem Deputy Leader, called for transparency regarding Farage’s connections to Trump’s administration and urged him to disclose all relevant information to the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards. Previously, Farage faced an inquiry over ownership of an undisclosed fishing boat, which was determined to be owned by a company associated with him.

Reports have revealed Farage as the highest-earning MP, amassing substantial income from multiple sources and dedicating significant time to his external commitments. Since the Brexit referendum, he has amassed a significant property portfolio and earns a substantial monthly income. Despite requests, Reform UK declined to comment on the matter.
