In a peculiar turn of events, the decades-old case of Theresa Ann Bier, who mysteriously vanished in the wilderness of California almost 40 years ago, is back under investigation. The disappearance of the 16-year-old girl, who set out with Russell Welch to explore the Sierra Nevada for signs of Bigfoot in 1987, has long puzzled authorities.
Welch, also known as Skip, initially claimed to have dropped Theresa off at school but later altered his story dramatically. He alleged that they encountered Bigfoot in Ghost Canyon, and Theresa ran after the creature in excitement. According to him, she was then taken by the mythical being.
Despite an extensive search in Ghost Canyon that uncovered some of Theresa’s belongings at a campsite, including a purse, clothing fragments, and personal items, no significant evidence or trace of the girl was ever found. Welch, who faced charges of child-endangerment and child-stealing, saw the case against him dropped due to insufficient evidence and the absence of Theresa’s remains just before his trial in September 1987.
While Welch passed away in 1998, never disclosing any potential secrets about Theresa, the case has resurfaced through a new documentary series, “Bigfoot Took Her.” The documentary delves into the mysterious circumstances surrounding Theresa’s disappearance, reexamining old records and interviewing witnesses to shed light on the baffling incident.
The renewed interest in the case prompts questions about the truth behind Theresa’s fate – whether she simply vanished without a trace or fell victim to an unsolved crime. Investigators, including Jessica Chobot and LAPD veteran Robert Collier, aim to uncover fresh theories and provide closure to one of the most enigmatic missing persons cases in recent history.
