At least 11 individuals have tragically lost their lives in a devastating fire that engulfed a retirement home in Bosnian city of Tuzla. The fire originated on the seventh floor of the building around 8:45 pm last night, resulting in over 30 people sustaining injuries.
Nermin Niksic, the Prime Minister of Bosnia’s Muslim-Croat entity, described the fire as a “disaster of enormous proportions.” Video footage captured flames erupting from the upper floors of the building. Authorities plan to begin identifying the victims and launch a probe into the fire’s cause once conditions permit.
A resident named Ruza Kajic, residing on the third floor, recounted being awakened by a loud noise. She witnessed burning debris falling from above and quickly evacuated, expressing concern for the bedridden individuals on the upper levels.
The retirement home issued a statement affirming that authorities are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident. Reports from local media indicated that multiple patients are receiving treatment for carbon monoxide poisoning, with three in critical condition at the Tuzla University clinical center.
Savo Minic, Prime Minister of the Serb Republic, extended sympathy and assistance, stating, “We feel the pain and are always ready to help.”
