“British Tourist Dies in Canary Islands Railing Collapse”

Published:

A British tourist, aged 56, passed away in the Canary Islands after falling nearly 20 feet due to a hotel railing collapse. Another visitor, aged 54, also fell and sustained serious injuries in the same incident in Costa Teguise, Lanzarote, early in the morning.

The deceased man was pronounced dead at the scene, while the injured individual was taken to the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital in critical condition.

Emergency services responded to reports of the incident around 1:30 am, where two individuals had fallen from a significant height within the hotel premises. The local authorities, including the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), local police, and the Spanish Civil Guard, were dispatched to the location.

Reports indicate that the railing that collapsed was situated in an elevated section of the hotel complex. The Spanish Civil Guard has initiated an investigation to ascertain any negligence in the railing’s maintenance or the hotel’s security protocols.

A spokesperson from the Foreign Office stated, “We are providing assistance to the families of the deceased British national and the injured British individual in Spain.”

In a separate incident in August, a British tourist suffered severe injuries after falling from a hotel balcony in Ibiza. The 22-year-old holidaymaker fell from the third floor of the Marco Polo hotel in San Antonio, sustaining chest and head injuries.
