Murison, 35, often busks in full Highland attire near the Ottawa Locks, beside the Château Laurier. Last year, a tourist from Brazil was moved to tears by his performance and even left her contact information for a potential future meeting. However, not all encounters have been as pleasant, as some individuals have reacted negatively, including one who threw a drink at him and stole money from his open case.
In a recent incident on a Saturday afternoon, Murison encountered a violent situation that resulted in injuries. While playing his bagpipes around 4 p.m., a man approached him under the pretense of taking a photo but then brandished a knife. Following a chaotic altercation, Murison found himself injured, requiring four stitches on his thumb and a significant gash on his bagpipe bag.
Fortunately, a passerby called 911, leading to the swift arrival of the police. The suspect, a 25-year-old man, was promptly apprehended with the help of a witness who had photographed the suspect’s vehicle’s license plate. The man now faces multiple charges, including assault with a weapon and breaching probation. Authorities stated that the attack was unprovoked.
Despite the traumatic incident, Murison remains optimistic and determined to continue his passion for playing the bagpipes. His band has provided him with a new bag, showing significant support from the bagpiping community. While Murison’s injuries may temporarily halt his performances, he is resolute in returning to busking once he has fully recovered.
