Amazon has launched rapid grocery delivery services promising delivery within 30 minutes. Customers can select from a wide range of groceries and household essentials such as dairy products, baby supplies, and medications.
This move puts Amazon in direct competition with supermarkets that already offer similar speedy delivery services through partnerships with delivery firms. Last September, Amazon announced the closure of all its Amazon Fresh grocery stores, leading to the introduction of the new Amazon Now service.
Currently being tested in select London postcodes in Southwark, Amazon Now utilizes bike delivery with plans for expansion in the near future. Riders for this service are recruited through Amazon Flex, a non-employee model.
John Boumphrey, Amazon UK country manager, expressed excitement about Amazon Now, stating that it elevates customer convenience with deliveries in under 30 minutes. The service is part of Amazon’s commitment to faster delivery, complementing their existing same or next-day delivery options.
Amazon’s decision to offer ultra-fast deliveries comes after its partnership with Gopuff last July, enabling customers to receive a variety of products within an hour. The new service offers discounted delivery fees for Prime members, making it more cost-effective for frequent shoppers.
Amazon emphasized its dedication to enhancing the shopping experience for customers in the UK through faster, more affordable delivery services. The company’s focus on online deliveries aligns with its strategic shift away from physical grocery stores to cater to the growing demand for online shopping.
