Tech Mogul’s Daughter Leaves £5M Estate Amid Legal Battles

Published:

The late British tech mogul, Mike Lynch, and his daughter, Hannah, tragically perished in a yacht accident off the coast of Sicily last year. Lynch’s wife, Angela Bacares, narrowly escaped the disaster, which claimed the lives of several others aboard the vessel.

Following Hannah’s untimely death, it was revealed that she left an estate worth over £5 million. As she had no will, probate documents show that her assets and cash totaled £5,088,449, which are expected to be inherited by her mother, Angela. This inheritance holds significant meaning for Angela, who is currently facing legal challenges regarding her late husband’s estate.

Angela is confronted with potential legal actions from the families of the deceased yacht victims and a ruling by the UK’s High Court demanding Lynch’s estate to pay over £700 million to Hewlett-Packard due to fraud allegations. The case stems from HP’s acquisition of Lynch’s company Autonomy, where it was claimed that Lynch and his CFO inflated the company’s value fraudulently.

Despite Lynch’s considerable wealth, estimated at around £500 million, his will remains undisclosed. The recent civil fraud ruling by HP in the UK has raised concerns about Angela’s financial situation. The legal battles and tragic events have cast a shadow over the Lynch family, with Hannah’s estate now being overseen by Richard Gaunt.

Hannah, described as a warm and intelligent individual by friends, was set to attend Oxford University before the yacht tragedy struck. The series of unfortunate events, including Lynch’s acquittal in the U.S. fraud trial and subsequent civil fraud case ruling in the UK, have left Angela facing financial uncertainties in the aftermath of the heartbreaking loss of her husband and daughter.
