“London Hero Confronts Train Attacker Amid Knife Chaos”

Published:

A passenger recounted a harrowing incident where a man attacked individuals on a train in Huntingdon after uttering a threatening phrase. Stephen Crean, a London resident, bravely confronted the knife-wielding assailant during the chaos that ensued on the LNER service from Doncaster to London King’s Cross. Crean described the tense moment when the attacker menacingly asked him three times if he wanted to die while brandishing a blade.

The train journey turned tumultuous shortly after Crean boarded at Grantham following a Nottingham Forest vs. Manchester United match. Panic erupted among passengers as they noticed a man with a knife, prompting many to seek safety near the buffet bar or in occupied restrooms. Crean found himself in a direct confrontation with the assailant, facing the blade and the chilling question repeatedly.

The violent episode resulted in eleven passengers sustaining injuries on the train, which was forced to make an emergency stop at Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire. Among the injured, four individuals were discharged from the hospital, while two, including a heroic train staff member, remained in critical condition.

Anthony Williams, aged 32, faced charges at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court for ten counts of attempted murder and one count of actual bodily harm related to the train attack. Authorities also linked Williams to an additional attempted murder charge stemming from an incident on London’s DLR network. Williams, appearing in court in a grey tracksuit and handcuffed to officers, was denied bail due to the gravity of the offenses. The presiding judge scheduled his next court appearance at Cambridge Crown Court on December 1, 2025. Williams refrained from entering pleas in court and provided a vague response when asked about his address.
