In just a few days, I am preparing to present my second Budget as the Chancellor. My focus will be on supporting working families by addressing key issues such as reducing NHS waiting times, lowering national debt, and alleviating the cost of living.
One of the main objectives is to reduce NHS waiting lists, fulfilling our commitment to uplift the NHS, undo the impacts of prior austerity measures, and ensure patients receive timely treatment without prolonged delays.
Addressing the national debt is crucial to redirect funds from debt interest towards essential sectors like education, healthcare, law enforcement, and community services.
Tackling the high cost of living, a major concern for households, is a priority. Many families are struggling with rising prices, impacting them significantly. Recognizing the challenges faced by working individuals, actions will be taken to ease these financial burdens in the upcoming Budget.
Previous initiatives, such as freezing prescription charges and rail fares, expanding school breakfast programs, and combating ticket scalping, have already helped reduce everyday expenses for many. However, further measures will be introduced to extend this support.
Ensuring economic stability and prudent spending practices have laid the foundation for addressing cost-of-living issues effectively, preventing past mistakes from recurring.
Efforts to eliminate wasteful spending and tackle fraud are ongoing to ensure resources are allocated where they are most needed, whether in asylum support, eliminating police and crime commissioners, or combating welfare fraud.
The upcoming Budget aims to benefit individuals and families directly, striving to create a fairer, more resilient, and secure society for all citizens.
