The Toronto Raptors are set to honor Kyle Lowry by retiring his jersey number, No. 7, during their game against the Philadelphia 76ers on January 10. This recognition will make Lowry only the second player in Raptors history to have his number raised to the rafters at Scotiabank Arena, following in the footsteps of Vince Carter.
Lowry, who retired at the age of 40 in July after a remarkable 20-year NBA career, formally ended his time in the league as a Toronto Raptor by signing a one-day contract. Expressing his excitement, Lowry stated, “I’ve always considered Toronto my home and envisioned retiring as a Raptor. Seeing my No. 7 jersey displayed in the arena will hold immense significance for me.”
Reflecting on his time with the team, Lowry emphasized the special bond created with his teammates, the organization, the city, the fans, and all of Canada. He highlighted the collective achievement of winning the NBA championship in 2019 and expressed gratitude for being able to share this moment with his loved ones.
During his nine seasons with the Raptors, the six-time All-Star made a lasting impact and holds the franchise records for assists, steals, and three-pointers. This retirement ceremony will be a fitting tribute to Lowry’s contributions to the team and the city of Toronto.
