A man from Hamilton who had been evading authorities since 1991 was apprehended by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in California earlier this month. Identified as Charles Peter Billone, aged 64, he had failed to attend court proceedings after being released on bail 35 years ago. Billone’s initial arrest in 1991 was on charges of sexual assault and sexual interference.
ICE disclosed in a statement on August 4 that Billone was a wanted individual in Canada for sexual assault against a minor, along with a history of theft, assault, and drug-related convictions. Despite attempts to conceal his identity, Hamilton police managed to locate him in 2014 after a prolonged period of eluding capture through unconventional means.
Currently in ICE custody, Billone faces pending deportation proceedings. Hamilton police spokesperson, Jackie Penman, confirmed ongoing collaboration with the Crown’s office regarding the case, clarifying that there are no extradition processes underway at this time.
