Stellantis, the parent company of Chrysler, announced on Friday a recall of over 1.5 million Ram 1500 pickup trucks worldwide due to a seat belt problem. The affected vehicles are model years 2019 to 2026 and may have a second-row center or second-row driver side seat belt buckle anchor that was not correctly attached to the vehicle body structure during manufacturing. This issue could compromise the effectiveness of the second-row seat belt system, potentially increasing the risk of injury to passengers. While one injury has been reported in connection to this recall, there have been no fatalities.
The recall affects approximately 1.27 million vehicles in the United States, 156,000 in Canada, 15,000 in Mexico, and around 75,000 outside of North America. Stellantis will be reaching out to affected vehicle owners to arrange for an inspection at authorized dealerships. During the inspection, dealers will assess the attachment of the second-row center and second-row driver seat belt buckle anchor and make necessary corrections to ensure proper attachment to the vehicle’s body structure.
