Authorities have disclosed that a raccoon, known for causing chaos by breaking into an alcohol store and passing out near the toilets, is a repeat offender. The incident went viral when law enforcement responded to a store in Virginia, initially thinking it was a burglary, only to find the raccoon in an inebriated state. Animal Protection Officer Samantha Martin revealed that this raccoon had previously broken into a karate studio and a Department of Motor Vehicles office, even enjoying some snacks at the latter location.
Despite the raccoon’s mischievous activities, the department did not relocate it, as that would likely result in its demise. The cunning animal managed to find its way back into the same building, showcasing its intelligence. The raccoon’s escapade at the Ashland ABC Store, where it caused a commotion before being safely secured and taken back to the shelter, garnered global attention. Officer Martin recounted the humorous yet unusual discovery of the raccoon in the store bathroom, surrounded by shattered bottles and liquor.
Authorities shared that the raccoon gained entry to the shop by breaking through a ceiling tile, causing further chaos by damaging the CCTV system. Raccoons are known for their curiosity and adeptness at accessing various places, a behavior exacerbated by urban food waste and habitat loss. Experts caution that these nocturnal creatures are increasingly venturing into urban areas due to these factors, bringing them closer to human settlements.
