“King Charles Considers Stripping Prince Andrew’s Duke Title”

Published:

King Charles is reportedly contemplating the removal of Prince Andrew’s Duke of York title due to a series of ongoing scandals that have reached a critical point. A royal insider disclosed that the King is exploring various options, including the potential revocation of Prince Andrew’s dukedom, a process that would necessitate an Act of Parliament. Concern and unease within the Royal Family have intensified following Prince Andrew’s associations with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and his engagements with China, according to reports from The Times. The situation has been described as approaching a crucial juncture.

Recent revelations indicate that Prince Andrew held meetings with Cai Qi, a key figure in the Chinese spy scandal, on multiple occasions between 2018 and 2019. Cai Qi currently holds a prominent position within the Chinese Communist Party and is closely connected to Xi Jinping.

In a separate incident, a photo from February 2011 showed Prince Andrew with Virginia Giuffre, a victim of Epstein’s crimes. Reports have also surfaced suggesting that Prince Andrew corresponded with Epstein, expressing solidarity and hinting at future interactions.

Despite making a reported payment of £12 million to Ms. Giuffre in an out-of-court settlement, Prince Andrew has consistently denied any sexual involvement with her. During a Newsnight interview, he claimed to have been at a Pizza Express in Woking at the time of the alleged encounter with Ms. Giuffre and suggested that the incriminating photo could have been doctored, citing a medical condition that prevents him from sweating.

The King is contemplating an alternative measure of removing Prince Andrew from the Order of the Garter, as per The Times’ report. While stripping Prince Andrew of his dukedom would necessitate parliamentary approval, it is anticipated to receive widespread backing from both the public and the government, particularly with the King’s support.

A recent YouGov poll revealed that 67% of respondents favored stripping Prince Andrew of his title, a step the palace acknowledges would consume valuable parliamentary time. There is an expectation that Prince Andrew will act with dignity and voluntarily relinquish his titles, including vacating Royal Lodge.

Following the filing of a civil lawsuit by Virginia Giuffre, Queen Elizabeth withdrew Prince Andrew’s HRH and military titles, along with his military affiliations, in 2022. Consequently, he no longer holds a working royal status, carries out official duties, but retains his title as a prince and remains in the line of succession.
