Virgin Media has recently slashed the price of its fastest broadband offering to an all-time low. The company has initiated an unexpected sale, reducing the cost of its ultra-fast Gig1 Fibre Broadband by over £70.
The Gig1 plan boasts lightning-fast speeds of up to 1,130Mbps and typically carries a monthly price tag of £29.99. However, it is currently available for just £26.99. This represents a significant saving of £72 over the 24-month contract, amounting to approximately 87p per day.
According to Virgin, this promotion marks the “lowest ever price” for the Gig1 plan. With these speeds, users can download a feature-length HD film in under 30 seconds and have a 50GB PS5 game ready to play in less than seven minutes.
While households with 70Mbps speeds may experience game downloads taking more than 90 minutes, Virgin’s Gig1 plan ensures smooth Netflix streaming and online gaming experiences, as reported by the Express.
However, there is a catch to the discounted rate. Virgin has confirmed that the £26.99 price will increase twice during the minimum contract term, rising to £30.99 from April 2027 and £34.99 from April 2028. In comparison to competitors like Sky, Virgin’s £26.99 Gig1 deal offers compelling value. Despite Sky reducing its comparable 900Mbps plan to £28, it remains pricier than Virgin and provides slower speeds. Meanwhile, BT’s 900Mbps connection comes at a higher cost of £37.99. It is recommended to explore alternative network providers, as many emerging alt-nets in the UK offer competitive pricing.
