A devoted supporter of Wrexham is looking forward to experiencing a lifestyle akin to the club’s celebrity owners after winning a £3 million mansion. Richard Baker, 58, likened his stroke of luck to the journey of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, who have propelled the team to prominence. Expressing his excitement, Richard stated, “We lead ordinary lives with regular jobs, but now we are set to live like Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney… Winning a multi-million-pound property on the same day is the kind of promotion we have always dreamed of.”
Richard, a father, invested £25 in tickets for an Omaze draw and was pleasantly surprised last Friday when he discovered he had clinched the grand prize – a magnificent new residence in the New Forest. To mark the victory, Richard promptly took his 17-year-old daughter Alicia to a Wrexham football match that evening, despite the team only managing a draw in the “Hollywood Derby” against Birmingham City. Nevertheless, Richard left the stadium content and jubilant.
“We secured a draw in the football match, but having won big earlier that day, I was more than satisfied… Although Wrexham only managed a draw, winning a multi-million-pound house on the same day is the kind of promotion we have always aspired to. We celebrated by watching football throughout the weekend,” added Richard.
The luxurious four-bedroom property is situated on over an acre of private land near the coast and Lymington, Hampshire. It boasts a swimming pool, yoga studio, sauna pod, and beautifully landscaped gardens, including a vegetable patch. The house is free of a mortgage, with all stamp duty and legal expenses covered.
In addition to the house, Richard, along with his wife Yannick, 54, and daughter Alicia, was awarded a life-changing £500,000 in cash from the Omaze Million Pound House Draw in the New Forest. Reflecting on the win, Richard shared, “I’ll be inviting Ryan and Rob over for a cup of tea – my new place is certainly fit for Hollywood superstars.”
Yannick, a languages teacher, Alicia, and Richard are now faced with the decision of residing in the house, renting it out for extra income, or selling it to become multi-millionaires. Should they choose to keep the property, the cash prize will cover household expenses for many years. Local estate agents estimate that renting the house out could yield approximately £3,000 per month in long-term rental income.
The family, who have resided in their four-bedroom residence in Wrexham for over 20 years, had been longing for more space. Richard, a native of the city, has spent his entire life in the area and is a devoted fan of the TV series “Welcome to Wrexham,” which revolves around his cherished team.
Describing the house, Richard remarked, “This residence is absolutely breathtaking, from the garden to the pool, the layout – it’s simply incredible. My wife has only dabbled in yoga a few times, but she’ll soon be an expert now that we have our own studio.”
Thinking ahead to enjoying his favorite sport, Richard added, “We have a cinema room to watch football matches and ‘Welcome to Wrexham,’ along with a vast garden for a kickabout. The garden is so spacious – it might even be larger than the Wrexham football pitch.”
Richard emphasized that winning the house will revolutionize their lives, allowing them to contemplate retirement and spend more quality time together as a family. He emphasized the importance of this win for his daughter’s future as well.
Apart from making Richard a multi-millionaire, the Omaze Million Pound House Draw in the New Forest also raised £1 million for the Teenage Cancer Trust, a charity dedicated to supporting young cancer patients aged 13-24. The funds help finance specialist nurses, youth support teams, and hospital units to assist young individuals throughout their treatment and recovery.
The partnership with Teenage Cancer Trust was endorsed by Sir Roger Daltrey CBE, Honorary Patron of the charity, who lauded the community for its support. This collaboration signifies Omaze’s third campaign with Teenage Cancer Trust and highlights the platform’s success in raising over £100 million for charitable causes in the UK.
