The union representing WestJet’s cabin crew has disclosed the specifics of the tentative agreement reached with the Calgary-headquartered airline following a one-day strike. The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) has outlined that the deal entails an increase in wages exceeding 18% over a three-year period, along with the introduction of a new “duty period premium” to compensate for ground duties. Additionally, the agreement encompasses extended time off, enhanced food and uniform allowances, and other benefits.
During the long holiday weekend, WestJet flights throughout much of Canada were suspended as 4,400 flight attendants prepared to strike. However, a tentative agreement was reached between the airline and the union early Monday, leading to a gradual return to normal operations for WestJet.
The cabin crew members are scheduled to vote on the proposed deal in the upcoming weeks.
