“Virgin Media Dominates UK Broadband Speeds”

Published:

Virgin Media has emerged as the top choice for homes seeking superior broadband speeds, reliability, and consistent quality, according to a recent study by Opensignal. The UK-based Internet Service Provider (ISP) dominated in all categories, including Download Speed, Upload Speed, Video Experience, and Consistent Quality.

Principal Analyst Andrey Popov noted, “Amid the UK’s shift to full-fibre networks, Virgin Media offers the most robust broadband experience across all metrics we monitor.” This success is attributed to Virgin’s upgraded cable-to-fibre network, positioning it ahead of providers relying primarily on the Openreach wholesale platform. Virgin excelled in Download Speed at 187.8Mbps and Reliability Experience with 747 points.

Vodafone secured the second spot overall, boasting high scores across the board. Setting itself apart with a dual-network approach spanning Openreach and CityFibre networks, Vodafone outperformed by leveraging two distinct suppliers, unlike most ISPs relying on a single platform.

Other notable ISPs included BT, ranking third in Consistent Quality and Download Speed, and Sky for its commendable Video Experience, securing the second spot in this category.

In contrast, Three landed at the bottom of the rankings, scoring lowest in Consistent Quality, Upload Speed, Video Experience, and Reliability Experience. TalkTalk also faced challenges in download speeds, averaging 55.1Mbps compared to Virgin’s 180Mbps+.
