“Venezuelan Politician Wins Nobel Peace Prize Over Trump”

Published:

Donald Trump was not awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, despite his involvement in brokering a peace deal in Gaza. The Nobel committee chose to honor María Corina Machado, a Venezuelan opposition politician, for her efforts in advocating for democratic rights in Venezuela and pushing for a peaceful transition to democracy.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee highlighted Machado’s dedication to promoting democratic values and peace in Venezuela as the reason for her selection. Trump, on the other hand, had openly campaigned for the prize and received multiple nominations, particularly for his role in the Abraham Accords and claims of ending seven wars.

Trump’s lobbying efforts, along with controversial actions such as extrajudicial killings, renaming the Department of Defense, and deploying troops, likely worked against him in the selection process. Despite his involvement in peace initiatives, the committee emphasized that decisions are based solely on the merits of the nominees’ work and Alfred Nobel’s principles.

While Trump and his supporters may view the decision as a snub, the committee’s focus remains on enduring peace efforts and international cooperation. The Nobel Peace Prize, established in 1901 to promote peace and global unity, has been awarded to notable individuals and organizations dedicated to advancing peace and human rights.

Although there was speculation about Trump’s chances, the Peace Research Institute Oslo cited other potential winners, including humanitarian groups and organizations advocating for press freedom. The peace prize, awarded annually in Oslo, Norway, aims to recognize significant contributions to peacebuilding and conflict resolution on a global scale.
