“Unlocking the Future: A Proud EV Owner’s Journey”

Published:

Welcome to our weekly newsletter focusing on environmental trends and solutions driving us towards a more sustainable future. I’m Nicole Mortillaro, and recently, I shared insights on purchasing a used electric vehicle (EV). Today, I’ll delve into my experience as a proud EV owner.

This week’s highlights include my journey while shopping for a used EV, a significant experience at a glacier with Stephen Guilbeault, and the possibility of relocating problem bears instead of resorting to lethal measures.

In my quest for a used EV, I carefully selected a 2018 Nissan Leaf after extensive research. One crucial aspect emphasized by experts was assessing the battery state of health (SOH) to determine the remaining capacity. Surprisingly, most dealerships were unaware of this critical report. Despite challenges in obtaining the SOH, leveraging an OBD2 sensor and LeafSpy Pro app revealed a reassuring 87.96% battery health.

Cara Clairman from Plug’n Drive highlighted the longevity of EV batteries, dispelling concerns of potential lemons. Notably, the lack of awareness among used car dealers about SOH underscores the need for better education. Additionally, my Carfax report mentioned a battery replacement without specifying the type, raising some ambiguity.

Addressing concerns about limited charging infrastructure for EVs, I found ample public charging stations in Toronto, easing my charging worries. Overcoming initial range anxiety, a common EV owner sentiment, has been a gradual process, echoing insights shared by Clairman.

Transitioning to a critical environmental issue, the debate on relocating problem bears versus lethal measures surfaced after a bear incident in Burnaby, B.C. Despite the notion that relocation is ineffective, research suggests potential success for juvenile bears, offering a humane alternative to safeguarding both bears and communities.

As we navigate environmental challenges, it’s crucial to explore innovative solutions and foster coexistence with wildlife. Stay tuned for more exclusive updates and thought-provoking stories in our future newsletters.

Thank you for being part of our community dedicated to shaping a sustainable future.
